Welcome to Open Meadow

“Equity is central to our success. We are deeply committed to building a culture that accelerates the academic achievement of our students as a primary factor in our community’s success.” - Andrew Mason, Executive Director

Strong, healthy communities have pathways to success for everyone. Education is central to creating these pathways. It is the key to disrupting core issues of racism, poverty, and violence that are barriers to success. Open Meadow focuses on young people: endowing them with the skills, power and hope to be agents of change in their communities. Investing in the education of every student motivates and empowers them to create the vibrant, equitable communities we all deserve.

We encourage students to explore the world, from arts and community to technology and the environment. On this journey, they discover the fire that propels them forward.

Since 1971, Open Meadow has been making a difference in the lives of North Portland youth. Open Meadow Schools offers a personalized educational experience for middle and high school youth. Our mission is to develop connection, capability, and confidence in disconnected youth through relationship-based, quality learning experiences that result in academic, personal, and community success.

Open Meadow is a private, non-profit, accredited, educational organization serving youth who have not fared well in the public schools. Many of our students dropped out of public school. Many struggled with attendance, academic, or disciplinary issues. We believe that all of them deserve a quality education.

At Open Meadow, students find

  • small community-learning environments
  • respectful, caring, and dedicated teachers
  • support to overcome previous barriers to success
  • classes that accommodate a variety of learning styles and skill levels

April 22, 2014, 10:21 a.m. - The appreciation continues to all who stepped up yesterday to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff during the High School fire. We are grateful to Portland Fire & Rescue for their quick response and to Portland Public Schools for their strong support of our students.

PPS has invited Open Meadow High School to continue classes at their Harriet Tubman School located at 2231 N. Flint Avenue (just south of N. Russell, adjacent to the south of Lillis Albina City Park).

An open house for High School students and families will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Tubman.

Classes will resume there Thursday morning.

Please call the main office at (503) 978-1935 with any questions.
